Q: Mike, why don’t you take a deposit up front?
A: We believe people should only be paid for work that is completed. How often does a workplace pay you in advance? Our advice is not to give anyone money who has not performed any work on your property.
Q: Mike, everyone else says a one year warranty is all we need?
A: Properly constructed projects should last a lifetime without a major repair. Any contractor using proper building techniques should be willing to stand behind the project for 2 years.
Q: How deep should the excavation be for a back yard patio?
A: The proper depth changes at each project. All topsoil, sod and loose fill must be excavated. This may be at ten, twelve or even 36 inches. Ensure your contractor knows you will be expecting them to remove all the topsoil no matter the depth.
Q: Is WSIB and insurance coverage really that important?
A: WSIB and contractors insurance are needed to protect your property and more importantly your family. Letting anyone work on your property without these items is putting you at risk.
Q: What is polymeric sand and do I really need it?
A: Polymeric sand is a must have on any installation of new pavers. It will harden in the joints of the pavers and deter insects and weeds. It also helps sheet water off the project.
Q: What type of material does Holman use for its base under pavers?
A: We use HPB or High Performance Bedding. We have found it to be the most effective material on the market.
